Brewers lead 5-team SBL cast
The GSM Brewers will return to defend their title as they led four other teams that showed interest in joining the new Saipan Baseball League season, which is tentatively set to open on Jan. 12.
The Brewers aim to keep the crown despite having a new manager. They will be joined by the Fielders, North Starz, and new clubs Jets and A’s. Last year’s runners-up Northern Yankees have yet to commit or express their interest in joining the league.
The SBL, during its organizational meeting last week at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym conference room, also discussed the deadline of team entry fees, league interval, uniforms, ground rules, regulation bats, and other related matters.
Waiver/roster forms were given out to all team representatives who attended the meeting and league coordinator Tony Rogolifoi advised the players, coaches, and managers to sign the waiver.
Big League players will be allowed to join the league provided they do not pitch. This rule will be enforced to prevent arm injuries.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 5:30pm at the gym’s conference room to finalize plans for the upcoming season. Waiver/roster forms and entry fee will be accepted at the meeting. Game schedule and ground rules will be distributed, too.
Meanwhile, league organizers also shared with the teams details of the inaugural Micronesian Baseball Classic (MBC), which the CNMI will host in July of 2016.
National teams from host CNMI, Guam, Palau, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Yap will converge on the island for some exciting and competitive baseball tournament.
