A junior golfer broke into the winners circle of the Refaluwasch Golf Association.

Sixteen-year-old Lawrence Camacho Jr. claimed the RGA September Ace after shooting a net 72 in the monthly competition held on Sept. 11 at the Kingfisher Golf Links.

Actually, Camacho’s net score was the third best in the day behind the 70 of Ray Tigilau and 71 of Dwayne Stephens. However, the two veterans have already won in the past monthly tournaments thus were disqualified for the September Ace.

Manny Mangarero carded a net 72 too in the September tournament, but lost to Camacho in the scoreboard tiebreak. Four other RGA members joined the competition with Nick Guerrero firing a 74, Tars Olopai tallying a 78, and Joe Saures and Tom Tebuteb posting similar scores of 81.

Tebuteb won the closest to the pin shot on hole No. 6, while Stephens prevailed on hole No. 12.

Meawhile, RGA will hold its October qualifying tournament this Sunday at Coral Ocean Point. Check-in time is 11am, while tee off is at 12pm. Then the October Ace tournament will take place on Oct. 9, also at COP.

The club is advising the first nine monthly Ace winners to make sure they meet the required number of tournaments to qualify for the RGA Club Championship in December. Ace winners must compete in at least six RGA-sanctioned events to enter the yearend event.

RGA is also planning to hold a two-man best ball tournament before the year ends and is asking members to give inputs on how the competition will be conducted.

For more information about RGA tournaments, contact Olopai at 483-5508, Tony Rogolifoi at 288-3515, and Jess Wabol at 288-1129.
