Hotel interns complete NMC’s English language program
The Northern Marianas College’s Community Development Institute recently recognized 16 individuals who completed 24 hours of training in the English Language Development Program.
The 16 individuals of the program are international staff members from Japan, South Korea, and Russia who are working as interns at the Saipan World Resort.
In the program, the participants learned the fundamentals of the English language, including grammatical concepts necessary for interactive skills development. Throughout the course, students practiced these concepts through various conversation and written exercises.
The interns completed the course in order to be more well-rounded hospitality employees. The training helps to ensure that they are able to effectively serve English-speaking hotel customers.
“The ELDC program helps our non-English speaking students to effectively communicate with the customers they serve, thus increasing customer service as well as staff productivity and self-confidence in the workplace,” said acting CDI director Floyd Masga.
The Community Development Institute provides a range of specialized academic courses, non-traditional courses, customized training such as workforce development and computer literacy courses, outreach and extended program services, personal enrichment, and community-based learning.
