The Rota Legislative Delegation passed a resolution on Tuesday urging incumbent Rota Mayor Melchor A. Mendiola to work with mayor-elect Efraim M. Atalig in ensuring a smooth transition for the Rota municipal government.

Atalig, who ran under the NMI Republican Party banner, beat independent candidate Mendiola in the general elections last Nov. 4 by 70 votes, 797-727.

Rota Legislative Delegation Resolution 18-11, authored by Rep. Teresita Santos (R-Rota), passed by three affirmative votes. Santos, Senate Vice President Victor Hocog (Ind-Rota) and Sen. Jovita Taimanao (Ind-Rota) all voted yes, while Sen. Paul Manglona (Ind-Rota) was excused.

Resolution No. 18-11 sought “to respectfully seek the support of incumbent Mayor Melchor Atalig Mendiola to provide assistance and cooperation toward Rota mayor-elect Efraim Manglona Atalig’s transition team for the sole purpose of ensuring that the Rota municipal government will have a smooth and orderly transition.”

The resolution added that mayor-elect Atalig’s transition team plays an important role in the development of an action plan to ensure that the Rota municipal government will have a smooth and orderly transition.

“Atalig seeks assistance and cooperation from incumbent Mayor Melchor Atalig Mendiola in instructing all resident department heads to work in collaboration with the Rota mayor-elect’s transition team.”

Resolution No. 18-11 noted that the Rota Legislative Delegation is appreciative of Mendiola’s cooperation in providing assistance to Atalig’s transition team and that a smooth and orderly transition between the incoming and outgoing mayor would greatly benefit the citizens of the First Senatorial District.
