2 female players join U18 singles event

The U18 singles competition in the 6th Tan Holdings Tennis Classic will be a co-ed event, following the inclusion of Mikayla Lopez and Negahr Rastguiy in the eight-player field.

Lopez, who was a finalist in last year’s girls U18 singles, is at the top half of the co-ed U18 bracket, joining the top-ranked Moris Villanueva, Woo Sun Cho, and Luther Lizama. Villanueva will be paired against Cho in the 9:30am match at the Hyatt Regency Saipan Court 2 tomorrow, while Lopez will challenge Lizama also this Friday at 8m at Hyatt Court 1.

In the lower half of the draw, Rastguiy will take on Michael Ren tomorrow at 9am at Hyatt Court 2, while the second-seeded Tommy Choi will duel Colin Ramsey at 11am at Hyatt Court 1.

Winners of the four matches will advance to the semifinals, which will be played this Saturday at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan tennis courts, while the title match is also set at Fiesta on Sunday at 2:30pm.

In the boys U18 doubles, which has a round-robin format, games are spread this weekend with Ren and Lizama battling Haruya Eda and Woo Sun Cho this Friday at 1pm ay Hyatt Court 1. Over at Fiesta Court 2, Steven Lee and Ramsey will collide against Eda and Cho this Saturday at 7pm, while on Sunday, Ren and Lizama will face Lee and Ramsey at 4pm at Fiesta Court 1.

Meanwhile, eight players are also entered in the boys U14 singles with Vincent Tudela and Robbie Schorr getting the Top 2 seedings.

The top-ranked Tudela will have his first match this Friday against Steven Goodwin at 11am at Fiesta Court 2, while Clayton Izuka and Eda will also play at Fiesta Court 2 tomorrow at 5:30pm.

The other match at Fiesta tomorrow at 1pm will have Tony Kim squaring off against Ken Song. Over at Hyatt Court 1, Schorr will test A.J. Hudkins in their 11am match.

Six of the eight players competing in the U14 singles will also see action in the doubles event. Kim will partner with Tudela and they will take on the tandem of Goodwin and Schorr this Friday at 4pm at Fiesta Court 1.

Schorr and Goodwin will have back-to-back games as they will also duel Hudkins and Song this Saturday at 7pm ay Fiesta Court 1, while the pairs of Kim and Tudela and Hudkins and Song will close out the round-robin play this Sunday at 5:30pm also at Fiesta.
