The Marianas Meat Harvesting Co. has set up shop beside the Garapan Public Market.

Isidoro Cabrera, secretary of the CNMI Farmer’s Cooperative Association that runs the market, called it a “a plus” as customers will also have the option to buy meat when they visit the market.

Company president Hong Kyun Kim said their company, which owns a slaughterhouse in Lower Base, will provide local and fresh beef, pork and soon, fish. He presented one butcher slicing a fresh slab of USDA-stamped beef.

The store, adjacent to the market, will be also selling items like noni tea, coconut oil, noni soup, and coconut soup.

Hong emphasized that his products are “all local” and “all made in Saipan.”

The shop will be open Monday to Sunday from 2pm to 8pm.

Kim said he would like to be more involved with local agriculture. He said in January, he would like to invite farmers to see his slaughterhouse.

“We really want to purchase from farmers,” he said.

The meat company is renting its space from the market. Hong said they have paid for two years of rental out of a six-year agreement.
