Simon Manacop and Diana Camacho emerged as the CNMI’s top male and female bowlers in the recently concluded 28th Asian Intercity Bowling Championships held at the E-Lanes Bowling Center in San Juan City, Philippines.

San Juan City organizers looked unprepared to handle the annual bowling event as it took a week before the final results were released. No daily updates were also available at the AIBC website or the event’s Facebook page.

Manacop finished 13th overall out of 64 bowlers in the men’s All Events with a total of 3,753 pinfalls behind his 1,217 in the singles, 1,231 in the doubles, and 1,305 in the team events. He was 398 pins behind the 4,151—1,465 singles, 1,354 doubles and 1,332 team event—of overall champion Tyrone Ongpauco of host San Juan City. Hong Kong’s Lau Kwon Ho (4,092) and Im Gyeol-Ui of Daegu, South Korea (4,070) finished second and third in the men’s All Events.

Manacop’s performance earned him a spot in the Master’s event as the Top 16 bowlers moved on in the finals. He, however, lost in the first round to Daegu’s Choi Suk-Byung.

Former CNMI youth bowler Raymond Zapanta finished 34th (3,280), many-time perfect gamer Robert Talavera placed 36th (3,271), and veteran pinbuster Ador Dimaano landed at 39th (3,197).

Manacop was 18th overall in the singles after a six-game roll-off of 172, 234, 168, 171, 267, 205 for the 1,217 total, followed by Zapanta (33rd, 1,108), Dimaano (35th, 1,087) and Talavera (38th, 1,083). The pair of Manacop and Zapanta placed 14th overall in the men’s doubles (2,326,) while Dimaano and Talavera came in at 22nd (2,094).

The CNMI’s four-man team dropped from sixth to eighth this year after tallying 4.586 pitfalls.

Meanwhile, Diana Camacho duplicated Manacop’s feat in the women’s division as she was the top female bowler for the Commonwealth with her 2,851—1,020 singles (21st), 918 doubles (15th), and 913 team (8th). Yho Villavicencio placed 30th (2,804) followed by Elena Soll (33rd, 2,783) and Carrie Camacho (37th, 2,649). (Jon Perez)
