Breaking my silence
Whilst I was unsuccessful in my bid to secure a seat for Precinct 1 under the Democratic banner, principles of democracy are of utmost importance to me. In order to satisfy my hopes for the betterment of our Commonwealth, all is not lost. Speaking as a citizen and no longer a candidate, I opted not to endorse any candidate for the runoff election as I believe it is best to leave it to the supporters. However, hotly debated on the block to who should lead this great Commonwealth, I felt compelled to voice my opinion as it affects everyone’s future, including mine.
Firstly, I just wanted to point out that it is politically incorrect, by principle, for a Democrat to be endorsing a Republican and vice versa. Secondly, there is no telling if endorsing any runoff hopeful will benefit those who voted for me to any effect. However, I am hopeful that any runoff hopeful will help everyone equally regardless of party affiliation. It was a very difficult decision for me to express, especially to those who voted for me but in the event knowing that my children’s future is compromised, I have to make a decision for the sake of the “future of our children.” Therefore, I will have to give my vote of confidence to the Hofschneider-Yumul team as “change” is what we all want. After all, this is what all camps were campaigning for anyway since Day 1—“change”! To me, “solutions-driven” is the same as a band-aid approach for what is wrong with the government. So that leaves the word “change.” To me, it means overhauling everything that is wrong with the government.
Here’s why I can’t consider the Inos-Torres tandem. 1) I am not worth $635; 2) we the people had no say on the casino deal; 3) we gave the Inos administration a chance and in turn we got 40 years of servitude from the ills of what’s to come from the casino. Casino? Not even the church condones this type of activity. If we the people can’t be heard now, then rest assured we won’t be heard at all.
Evidently, the future of our youth is at risk, and that is why the bright-minded M.I.L.E group individually endorsed HY. Common sense will tell you to follow what you believe is right and so they did. Their decision was based on what they believe in and not from outside influences that turn a blind eye. I kindly ask my supporters to do the same or at the very least respect my decision and think of the future of our children. Sincerity to serve the people should not be dictated by the size of one’s checkbook but the size of one’s heart. Money comes and goes but lying to the people has a lasting effect. Again, I will vote for Heinz and Ray for the sake of “change.”
