Inos raring to hit campaign trail today
Says hospitalization was due to flu, antibiotic treatment
Gov. Eloy S. Inos disclosed last night that his prolonged confinement at the Commonwealth Health Center was due to the flu and the round-the-clock antibiotic treatment he needed to go through.
The good news is that he will be released from the hospital today and he himself said he’s raring to return to the campaign trail.
“I had the flu so I was sent to the hospital to make sure I’m in good shape because I just came back from the Philippines. They had to do a series of antibiotics and the way it’s administrated is intravenously and in six-hour intervals,” he told Saipan Tribune last night in a phone interview.
Inos said that because of the nature of the treatment, his physician, Dr. Sharleen Osmond, and family agreed that it was better for him to be confined at the hospital.
“I can’t be going home, coming back, and [going] home again. So we decided it’s more private and I could take a rest here at the hospital. I will take my last dosage of antibiotics and tomorrow I will be heading home, according to my doctor,” he said.
The NMI Republican Party standard bearer, who is running with Senate President Ralph DLG. Torres (R-Saipan) in the Nov. 21 runoff, said he can’t wait to return to work and out in the campaign trail again.
“Tomorrow I will be out and I will hit the campaign trail again. I’m much better and I’m ready to roll.”
When asked to comment on rumors swirling around about his health issues, Inos said he already expected his political opponents to make a mountain out of molehill and make it appear that he’s not fit to serve the next four years.
“It’s basically not true. It’s a simple case of the flu that I got when I came back from the Philippines,” he said.
Inos, meanwhile, thanked the camps of former governor Juan N. Babauta and former Commonwealth Ports Authority executive director Edward “Tofila” M. Deleon Guerrero for supporting his candidacy.
“I’m really excited and grateful for both of them for giving their support to my candidacy and that goes to their supporters as well. I’m really honored that they decided to help and believe that I’m the better choice.”
Inos also said he had nothing to do with Best Sunshine International Ltd.’s release of $10 million in utility vouchers as part of the Hong Kong-based company’s Community Benefit Fund.
“I had nothing to do with the $10 million in utility vouchers. That’s basically between Best Sunshine and the Lottery Commission when they crafted the agreement. I understand that this $10 million was to be paid within 60 days. It could’ve been earlier or later.”
With regards to the Saipan Chamber of Commerce Gubernatorial Forum tentatively set for Wednesday, Inos said he will have to sit down with his campaign and discuss it with them first before coming up with a final decision.
Inos/Torres will figure in a gubernatorial runoff election with former speaker Heinz S. Hofschneider and former Senate floor leader Ray N. Yumul on Nov. 21. The seven-day advance voting for the runoff starts today.
