Navy, GovGuam seek traditional healers, practitioners for safe collection of plants
ASAN, Guam—Naval Facilities Engineering Command Marianas, the Guam State Historic Preservation Officer, and the Department of Chamorro Affairs are seeking traditional natural healers and other knowledgeable herbal practitioners/artisans interested in collecting plants on federal property prior to vegetation-clearing associated with future military relocation construction projects.
This effort is in partial fulfillment of the Department of the Navy’s commitments under the 2011 Programmatic Agreement for the Guam and Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Military Relocation.
Interested parties are invited to a public meeting Nov. 21, from 9am to 11am, at the Department of Chamorro Affairs office in Hagåtña, located on the first floor, Terlaje Professional Bldg. 294 Hernan Cortez St., across from the Guam Legislature.
Topics for discussion include required safety training for escorted access to military installation areas that may have World War II-era unexploded ordnance and information required for interested members of the public to participate in this program. A participant list will be established during the meeting and will be updated for future notifications.
A follow-on meeting will include discussions of SHPO’s proposed fiscal year 2015 Historic Preservation Fund grant projects and Guam’s upcoming Historic Preservation Plan update.
