2nd ‘Another Cheesy Fundraiser!’ on Sunday

Share

The Second Annual Grilled Cheese Cook-off will be held Sunday, Nov. 16, from 4pm to 8pm at Garapan Central Park Round Pavilion. This event is limited to 20 competitors and 150 tasters. All profit from this “cheesy” event will be split between two worthy non-profits: the CNMI Salvation Army soup kitchen and Soroptimist International of Northern Mariana Islands. Last year’s event raised over $1,400 for the local soup kitchen to support their power bill needs in preparing Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. Soroptimist International of Northern Mariana Islands awards an annual educational scholarship to local women in need well as support the local women’s shelter.

You can participate by cooking your best grilled cheese and competing for cheesy prizes, or purchase a taster ticket for only $20 which includes admission, a taste of all sandwiches, delicious tomato soup from various local restaurants, two drink tickets, a shiny quarter to vote with and cheesy games. If you’d like to be a cheesy cook, email shscottcsr@aol.com in advance for the rules and registration.

Prizes include limited edition aprons, engraved spatulas, cell phones and gift certificates to various businesses. Sandwich categories this year are: Purist, Suh-weet, and Whodathunkit. There will be a winner and runner-up prizes in each category for the popular vote (where it’s okay to buy yourself a win because it’s for charity) or the Big Cheese vote, which will be judged by representatives from both charities as well as island dignitaries and a professional chef.

Contact Shelly Scott for more details at (670) 989-9001 or shscottcsr@aol.com. (PR)
