Racoma and Castro win Pacifica Insurance art contest
A student from Saipan Southern High School and Saipan International School bested close to 100 art entries in Pacifica Insurance Underwriters, Inc.’s Pacifica Art Contest after placing first place in their respective categories.

Both winners received $200 cash, a gift basket, and other prizes.

-12-17 YEAR OLD CATEGORY
- 2nd place: Jieun Bang, 17, Mount Carmel School
- 3rd place: Tricia Salcedo, 12, William S Reyes Elementary School
- 4th place: Mikeala San Nicolas, 16, Kagman High School
- 5th place: Angelyn Labadan, 17, Marianas High School
Students from various private and public schools participated in the contest. There were a total of 96 submissions: 37entries for the 12-17 category division and 59 for the 6-11 for category division.
“I am overjoyed by the response we received from participants. The close to 100 entries were professional and phenomenal,” said EVP/GM Shirley Sablan.
Artists were asked to create an original art piece centered around the slogan “Rest assured, it’s Christmas.” Permitted mediums included water paint, oil-based paint, pastels, crayons, and pencils. Maximum dimensions were 18 inches by 24 inches.
The judging panel included Northern Marianas College external relations director Frankie Eliptico, Boarderline manager Soledad Tenorio, and Sweet Escape executive baker Raymond “Seiji” Sonoda.
“With varying backgrounds and a strong emphasis on marketing and the arts, I feel we have chosen the best of the best in helping us determine our two winners,” said Sablan. “I am indebted to our judges for their dedication and time”.
According to Sablan, they plan to make the art contest an annual tradition for Pacifica Insurance.
