500 take part in Heinz/Ray road waving

The campaign of former speaker Heinz Hofschneider and former Senate floor leader Ray Yumul held a road waving last Thursday that was attended by over 500 people.

Committee-to-Elect Heinz Hofschneider and Ray Yumul chair David Attao said the independent gubernatorial bets organized the road waving to thank supporters as well as those who voted for them during the Nov. 4 elections.

“We had over 500 people with huge hearts and determination to win who showed up for the road waving. It was a good turnout considering it was done with one-day notice and not publicly announced,” said Attao.

He said the Heinz/Yumul camp has been getting a lot of support from supporters of losing gubernatorial bets Juan N. Babauta (independent) and Edward M. DeLeon Guerrero of the NMI Democratic Party.

“We have been receiving a lot of support from the Babauta/Torres and Democratic supporters. We also appreciate our supporters for continuing the good fight. We also welcome Republicans and anyone who want to make the right choice.”

The Hofschneider/Yumul will figure in a gubernatorial runoff with incumbent Gov. Eloy S. Inos and running mate, Senate President Ralph DLG. Torres (R-Saipan), after finishing second in the general elections. The Inos/Torres tandem is running under the NMI Republican Party flag.

“I want to thank everyone for voting for Heinz and Ray, and we once again ask for one last vote. Heinz and Ray are on the right side of the ballot, so please make the right choice,” said Attao.

While their campaign is not sure whether they will secure the endorsement of Babauta or DeLeon Guerrero, the Committee-to-Elect Heinz Hofschneider and Ray Yumul already has a fresh take on the runoff.

“We are treating this as a new election and we are fighting hard to earn votes. [We’re] keeping things clean,” Attao said.

Hofschneider/Yumul garnered 4,501 votes in Tuesday’s elections, compared to the 6,342 received by the Inos/Torres team. Since Inos/Torres didn’t attain more than 50 percent of the vote, a runoff will take place 14 days after the Nov. 7 certification of votes.
