San Nicolas wants to prioritize scholarship, medical referral
Tinian mayor-elect Joey Patrick San Nicolas said Friday that he wants to raise the bar as far as public services are concerned when he comes to office.
“We want to prioritize scholarship and medical referral,” said San Nicolas in an interview with Saipan Tribune shortly after the Commonwealth Election Commission board certified the results of the general and special elections.
San Nicolas and Tinian senator-elect Jude Hofschneider, Tinian senator-elect Francisco Cruz and other elected Tinian officials attended the CEC board meeting on Friday.
San Nicolas said they want to get projects completed so the island can move forward both economically and socially.
“Our community is in dire need of an influx of economic growth and an improvement in the infrastructure,” said the 41-year-old San Nicolas, who is a former attorney general.
The mayor-elect says he is humbled by the election results, where he edged incumbent mayor Ramon M. Dela Cruz (Ind) by a mere seven votes.
“I’m happy that it’s done so we can all move forward as we try to make Tinian a better place to live, a better place to work, and a better place to invest,” he said.
San Nicolas said he commends Dela Cruz for a spirited campaign. He added that he looks forward to working closely with Dela Cruz in the next couple of months as they transition to a new administration.
