Sister Remedios hosts 7th annual walkathon
Saipan’s oldest and most cherished early childhood school, Sr. Remedies Early Childhood Development Center, recently held its signature fundraising event with its 7th Annual Sr. Remedies Walkathon. Despite the heavy rains that have hit the islands over the past month, blue skies opened up just in time for the walkathon on Oct. 25.
Sponsored by the school’s Parent-Teacher Association Council, the walkathon kicked off with Sr. Martha Ramarui leading over 100 students, parents, faculty, staff, and friends in prayer, giving praise and thanks to everyone and to God for bringing out the sun for the event.
After the one-mile walk, students snacked on fresh fruits and water, continuing to demonstrate the wholesome concept of the walkathon. Meanwhile, the grownups compared their raffle tickets with the many prizes listed for the winners. The grand prize, a live goat, was donated by a parent. The other prizes were donated by generous companies, families, and friends of the school.
The total amount collected was over $7,000. The school appreciates the following students for going above and beyond the call of duty by collecting the most in their respective class level: K-5: Joshua Benavente; K-4: Hunter C. Dela Cruz, and K-3: Landon Igisomar.
In closing the event, PTA Council chair Elaine Dela Cruz thanked all parents and students for making the 7th Annual Sr. Remedios Walkathon a big success. She also recognized the following donors: Juan S. Tenorio (Santiago), Oscar Babauta, J.C. Tenorio Enterprises, Pacific Islands Club, Pacific Trading Co., Herman’s Modern Bakery, Hyatt Regency Saipan, Docomo Pacific Inc., Island Apparel, Sweet Escape, The Shack, National Office Supply, Stand Up Paddle Saipan, and Modern Stationary.
