Hofschneider/Yumul is re-energized for runoff

Moving forward into the runoff election, Heinz S. Hofschneider, his running mate Ray N. Yumul and their Committee to Elect wish to personally thank all of their supporters for their tremendous passion, commitment, faith and conviction in publicly supporting their gubernatorial campaign. The collective support was an outward expression of a profound desire for change—a fundamental theme that formed the basis of the political campaign. It set the context for a humble but solid grassroots campaign to reach out directly to all people, regardless of prior political affiliations, with a hopeful message unfiltered by massive political advertising, media influences, or hired professional political consultants from the U.S. mainland.

In virtually every village, the campaign reached out to struggling households with a positive message of better governance for all the people of the Commonwealth, not just certain commercial and personal interests.  

“We were undaunted by the results from certain precincts and we will redouble our efforts to reach the hearts and minds of those voters who cast their votes for other candidates in the general election,” Hofschneider said. “We have already received contact from those voters and our message is, ‘We welcome you with open arms.’”

“This is a campaign against big money interests that will exhaust the resources of the Commonwealth and its people, leaving little behind when they leave,” said Hofschneider. “Make no mistake about that; we see the results of this approach already and this is a fight worth fighting.”

Speaking to voters and supporters, Yumul said: “Government employees who fear for their jobs: Remember you have the law on your side and the privacy of the polling booth. …This election is winnable with the continued support of the voters.”

“The Inos-Torres team garnered only 46 percent percent of the votes, two-thirds of the voters went elsewhere and we have good reason to be confident that two-thirds of the vote will continue to go elsewhere,” Yumul added.

Both Hofschneider and Yumul expressed their admiration for the spirited campaign efforts of the Babauta-Torres and Guerrero-Quitugua teams. “They gave it their all and it was clear they took their political obligations seriously,” Yumul said. “We look forward to a rewarding partnership with them and their supporters as we move ahead,” Hofschneider said. “Other candidates in other races worked tirelessly and should be commended for their effort in the face of overwhelming campaign dollars from the Inos-Torres team,” Hofschneider added. “Money isn’t everything in elections. The people’s voices cannot be drowned out by dollars.”

“The campaign believes that this community needs meaningful, long-term solutions and not just short, get rich quick schemes’ for some,” Hofschneider said. “Recent leaders have not made adequate investments in infrastructure development, adopting a piecemeal approach, which the community pays for in rising costs along with a cycle of breakdown and emergency fixes that cost much more than proper planning can achieve. We believe that all this can change with your vote.”
