Credit where credit is due

Let me give credit where credit is due. It was reported that I donated “all” of the 40-plus prizes raffled at the Kilili for Congress luncheon last Saturday to help Dandan Middle School parents build a bus shelter for their children. I did not.

The Dandan Middle School PTSA, Ms. Annie Blanco, Mr. Joe Flores, Mr. Angel Ray “Pan” Guerrero, Mr. Noriyasu Horiguchi, Mr. and Mrs. Ta Bun Kuy, Mr. John Pialur, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Propst, Mr. Juan “Santiago” Tenorio, and Rep. Ralph Yumul also generously provided prizes.

And when Mr. Chan, the Chairman of Mega Stars Overseas Ltd., who was at the luncheon, learned that the raffle still left the Dandan PTSA short of its goal, he made a donation on the spot to reach the needed $4,200.

Kilili for Congress did use our campaign lunch as an opportunity to help Dandan raise funds and we contributed many of the prizes. These included the 12,000 BTU air-conditioner, two Jungle Wave passes, and two D&Q gift certificates Andrea and I won at this year’s American Red Cross Club 200 event.

Congressional ethics rules prevent me from receiving gifts of value over $20. So to play it safe, Andrea and I decided to donate our ARC prizes to the Dandan Middle School PTSA.

Maybe I should apologize to the over 400 people who came to the Kilili for Congress fundraiser and then got asked to contribute more for Dandan Middle School. But I think we were all very happy that we raised enough to build a bus shelter that will keep students protected from the rain for many years to come.

Thanks to everyone who made this success.
