The more than 100 participants in last year's SIS 5K Fun Run leave the starting line at Banzai Cliff. (Roselyn B. Monroyo) All is set for tomorrow’s 11th SIS 5K Fun Run with over 100 have already confirmed to join the race from and to Banzai Cliff.

Mili Saiki of the Saipan International School said as of Thursday, 105 runners have already registered and they are expecting the number to grow on race day. Saiki is encouraging running enthusiasts to join the annual fundraiser, as proceeds from the event will be used for the operating expenses and other improvement in the school.

Registration starts at 6am, while the race begins at 7am. From Banzai Cliff, runners will head to the Cowtown Raceway and then back at the starting line. Entry fee is only $10 and the first 120 participants will get t-shirts and raffle tickets. SIS will be raffling of one-night stay at Fiesta and PIC gift certificates, dinner certificates, golf passes, spa certificates, and others.

Last year, the SIS race drew 175 runners with father and son Ketson “Jack” and Koen Kabiriel leading the list of winners. The older Kabiriel was the overall top finisher in the race, timing in at 20 minutes and 26 seconds for back-to-back titles in the men’s division. He won in 2009 with a time of 19:51. Koen ruled the boys U10 division, completing the race at the 38:50 mark.

Joining the older Kabiriel in the Top 3 were Chad Love (22:21) and Gary Pinkenton (23:17), while Mamiko Oshima-Berger was the first female finisher, timing in at 24:30, followed by Amber Goguen (25:18) and Akane Imaya (27:17).

In the U18 division, SIS students Angelo Jones and Jessica Soll topped the boys and girls races, posting 23:33 and 28:18, respectively.
