Fitial soon to unveil initiative for 20-year plan, a new vision

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial announced yesterday that his administration is embarking on an exploratory initiative reaching out to the islands’ citizens and a diversity of stakeholders on determining the need for developing a long-term 20-year plan and a new vision for the island communities of the Commonwealth.

The recent U.S. Census findings that the Commonwealth experienced a 22-percent outward migration is one of several factors that influenced the governor’s new initiative. The islands need to be proactive and embrace sustainable practices to navigate challenging times and to chart their future and destiny to be self-sufficient.
