Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer endorses Kilili
‘A strong and effective representative for your islands’
Rep. Steny Hoyer, the second highest ranking Democratic leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, has endorsed his fellow congressman Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan for re-election. Hoyer (D-Maryland) serves as the Democratic Whip, next in line to be the House minority leader.
“Congressman Sablan is a strong and effective representative for your islands,” Hoyer wrote in an open letter to the people of the Northern Marianas.
“[Kilili] regularly tells his colleagues in the House of Representatives about the needs and the accomplishments of his constituents. And he is always ready and willing to work with any Member from either party to get things done for you.”
“At the same time, he understands his responsibility as your voice in guiding the policies of our nation. He brings his experience serving in the Armed Forces as well as the unique geopolitical and cultural views of your islands to the debate in Congress.
“We are proud that Americans in the Northern Mariana Islands are represented in the U.S. Congress. And I believe you chose well by making Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan your very first representative.”
Sablan said that he is grateful for the support of the Democratic Whip. Sablan himself serves as one of the Democrats Regional Whips, representing Northern California, Hawaii, and the Pacific Islands. He is the only Independent to be elected to that Democratic Party position during the 113th Congress.
“When you vote on Nov. 4, I encourage you to re-elect Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan,” Hoyer said.
