Debate among candidates

Share

As a class, we have been discussing the need for public debate in the upcoming election to educate voters to make better judgment on the candidates. With the debate, candidates will elaborate their plans for their term and their stand regarding certain issues. We believe some issues that should be addressed include road maintenance, stray dogs, casino, and funding for education.

The concept of the debate will not only inform the citizens of the candidates’ individual platform, but to also separate the personal and political beliefs amongst people. We believe that it is important for a debate, with so many candidates to explain their stands rather than displaying their boards with little to no information at all. With the growing population of voters who speak English, it is essential for candidates to speak English. We believe that the candidates be willing and consider having the debate before this upcoming election.

Editor’s Note: The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a forum for all gubernatorial candidates just before the election. Watch out for the announcement on when they intend to hold the forum.
