The Smoke Pub Magic 8 Ball moved on top of the 2014 Saipan Billiards Association Budweiser Open 8-Ball Thursday league with one month left before the season ends.

The Magic 8 Ball dropped a 9-6 decision against the Poseidon Titans, but now enjoys a 7-win advantage over former leaders Route33 Armatech Hustlers. The Smoke Pub-backed crew holds 91-59 slate with the Hustlers dropping to second with 84-66, while Wild Bills is not too far behind at 83-67.

The Hustlers also lost their match last Thursday after being ambushed by National Alamo Car Rental, 8-7, while the Jokers Home Boyz defeated Wild Bills in similar scores.

Only Jonny’s Team SCS registered a lopsided win in the Thursday league when it dealt the Barcode Breakers an 11-4 thrashing. National Alamo Car Rental (80-70), Poseidon Titans (78-72), Jokers Homeboyz (78-72), Barcode Breakers (56-94) and Jonny’s Team SCS (50-100) complete the standings.

In the Tuesday league, the Jokers IT&E Voyagers regained the top ranking after an 11-4 victory over the Smoke Pub Lancheras.

The Voyagers now hold a 102-48 won-loss record for a 3-win advantage over the Saipan TV Hustlers, which took the lead last week.

The Hustlers drubbed the Jokers Str8 Shooters, 10-5, to improve to a 99-51 record and remain within striking distance of the Voyagers.

Jonny’s Crazy 8 edged Smoke Pub Sang&D’Gang, 8-7, in the other match. The Str8 Shooters (89-61), Crazy 8 (75-75), Sang&D’Gang (60-90) and Lancheras (25-125) complete the standings.

The league will play three more weeks for the finals and the Budweiser Cup after the seven-week regular season. (Jon Perez)
