Evaluation of 2 judges, justice done; Bar withholds results

The CNMI Bar Association completed the tabulation of evaluation forms on the performances of CNMI Supreme Court Associate Justice John A. Manglona, Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja, and Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo, but did not release the results yesterday as the Bar had earlier announced.

Bar president Maya Kara told Saipan Tribune that they already tabulated the 30 forms on Wednesday but, for reasons of politeness and respect, they are going to inform Manglona, Naraja and Govendo first what their specific results were.

“They don’t have to open the paper and read about it. They will be notified first,” said Kara after the Bar’s general membership meeting yesterday at Hyatt Regency Saipan’s Giovanni’s Restaurant.

Bar administrative director Suzanne Steffy earlier disclosed that the results would be announced at the general membership meeting.

Kara said she will notify the candidates for retention today, Friday, by phone about the results.

“As soon as it’s done, I will write a press release,” she added.

Only 30 of the 121 active Bar members who are based in the Commonwealth reportedly took part in the evaluation.

Justice Manglona and Judges Naraja and Govendo are all seeking their third retention on the bench this Nov. 4 election.
