Another NMC grad passes NCLEX on her first attempt
Another nursing graduate of the Northern Marianas College recently passed the challenging National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses, or NCLEX-RN, on her first attempt. Jan Kimberly Alcantara, who graduated from NMC last May, took the exam on Sept. 24, 2014.
The NCLEX-RN tests an individual’s nursing knowledge, skills and abilities essential to the safe and effective practice of nursing at the entry level. The exam is used by nursing boards in all U.S. states and territories to award nursing licenses.

“We are very proud of Jan for passing the NCLEX on her first attempt,” said NMC Nursing Department chair Rosa M. Tudela. “I am sure that we will be hearing more about her accomplishments as she enters the nursing workforce and pursues advancement in her nursing education.”
“I studied everyday while balancing my other responsibilities,” said Alcantara. “I was very anxious, but the support from my friends, loved ones, and family reminded me to never give up. I never lost faith, and I trusted in God’s plan.”
“The prerequisite classes and the classes in the different areas of nursing at NMC equipped me with the knowledge and experience to help me prepare for the exam and a nursing career,” Alcantara added. “My nursing instructors challenged and pushed me to excel. They were also my mentors and counselors; they guided and supported me.”
“I chose nursing because I admired how nurses were knowledgeable and professional, yet so nurturing and compassionate at the same time,” Alcantara added.
Asked what advice she would give other students who are preparing to take the NCLEX, Alcantara said: “Study whenever you can, but also make time for yourself. Be consistent, stay focused, ask for help, and use your resources. Pray, have faith, and believe in yourself and in God’s plan. No matter what happens, keep your goal[s] in mind and never give up.'” (NMC)
