TSL Foundation announces scholarship for NMC students
In its ongoing efforts to promote higher education among CNMI students, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation has announced that it is providing scholarships to ten students of the Northern Marianas College.
The Tan Siu Lin Foundation Scholarship program will provide $1,000 per scholarship recipient that can be applied for the 2014-2015 school year (spring or summer semesters).
The scholarships will be awarded to five full-time students pursuing an associate’s degree in Hospitality Management, and five full-time students pursuing other degrees at NMC. In addition to hospitality management, the college offers degrees in business, liberal arts, nursing, natural resources management, criminal justice, and education.
“We are extremely grateful to the Tan Siu Lin Foundation for their generosity and continued support of the Northern Marianas College,” said NMC president Dr. Sharon Y. Hart. “This scholarship program will help our students accomplish their educational goals and pursue rewarding careers in hospitality management and other industries.”
The Tan Holdings’ foundation was formed in 2002 and was renamed after the company’s founder and chairman, Dr. Tan Siu Lin. Through the years, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation has launched initiatives and built trusted partnerships with a diverse array of individuals, families, corporations, non-profit organizations, and government agencies. The main mission of the organization is to better serve the regions in which they operate thus making the communities a better place to live.
“Higher education doesn’t only benefit the individual with the degree or experience; our community also benefits from having a greater number of skilled and knowledgeable individuals in our workforce.” said Tan Holdings president Jerry Tan. “This scholarship program aims to provide more students with more opportunities to reach their goals.”
The scholarships are based on merit and will be awarded to the recipient on the basis of the candidate’s financial need, community involvement, academic background, and letters of recommendation. The essay and interview will also play a key role in the final selection of scholarship recipients.
The deadline for submitting applications for the Tan Siu Lin Foundation Scholarship is Nov. 28, 2014. Applications and additional information will be available for download at www.marianas.edu, or by contacting the NMC Financial Aid Office at 237-6792. (NMC)
