Larry Deleon Guerrero managed to tame the par-72 Larry Nelson-designed Coral Ocean Point Golf Course to rule the recently concluded Saipan Golf Association September Ace of the month.

Deleon Guerrero shot a 46 and 48 at the front and back nines for a 94 total and with a 21 handicap, he earned a net score of 73 to clinch the monthly SGA title. He joined the eight early SGA Ace of the Month winners and earned a spot for SGA’s final tournament set for January 205. Nick Sablan (January), James Nelson (February), Alex Tudela (March), Das Krishnan (April), Frances Sablan (May), Greg Sablan (June), Jung Eun Teack (July) and former Superior Court Presiding Judge Edward Manibusan (August) are the first eight winners of the monthly Ace tournaments.

Juan L. Babauta finished second behind Deleon Guerrero in the September competition with rounds of 39 and 47 for a gross 86. He had an 11 handicap for a 75 net score. Rick Kautz was a shot back with a net score of 76 (41, 40 for an 81 and 5 handicap).

The closest to the pin and longest drive winners were also recognized during the awards banquet. Manibusan led the closest to the pin winners at hole Nos. 3 and 14, while Steve Balakrishna took No. 7 and Joe Sablan at No. 12. Manny Alvarez had the longest drive at the 390-yard hole No. 6 while Greg Sablan duplicated the feat at hole No. 18.

Meanwhile, SGA held its October Ace of the Month last Sunday at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort’s east course, but results were not available at press time. (Jon Perez)
