‘The Charger’ crushes Guam foe

Marianas Elite’s Maitai “The Charger” Charley lived up to his name, relentlessly attacking Guam’s Kyle Pablo en route to a referee stoppage win in their 150-lb bout in the Rites of Passage 11: Onra held last Friday night at the Royal Taga Ballroom of the Saipan World Resort.
Charley clobbered Pablo with successive strikes, prompting the referee to step in and pulled the plug on the latter at 3:53 in the second round. Charley was the aggressor in the second round after engaging the Guam fighter in a chess match in the first round. The Marianas Elite bet managed a couple of top position in the opening round, but Pablo played good defense to stay afloat.
Charley was then hemmed in briefly at the start of the second round, but slipped out of the hold and took the top position again and this time he dealt out some ferocious strikes until the referee pulled him off and called the fight.
Meanwhile, other winners in ROP 11: Onra were Tinian’s Regino Mundo, Zalaka’s Jacob “One Blow” Ilo, Haga’s Jordan “Jungle Boy” Ogo, and Zalaka’s Joe “Da Combo” Duenas
Mundo of team Zeng Zung defeated Guam newcomer Justin “Dungka” Dizon by unanimous decision in their 150-lb kickboxing match.
Ilo topped Guam’s John Garcia of Counter Shot by split-decision in another kickboxing fight at the 125-lb weight class. While both fighters kept a high pace in the bout, Ilo looked much more relaxed and showcased more power with his punches.
Ogo also won his kickboxing fight in the same weight class against Counter Shot’s Jared “Smiley Face” Santos, prevailing via unanimous decision. Ogo was the obvious aggressor, throwing haymaker after haymaker right at the middle of Santos’ face. Although unorthodox it proved to be very effective.
Duenas remained unbeaten in three fights after winning over Predator Combat’s Tabi Jay Muna (4-12) via verbal submission at 1:47 into the second round of their 135-lb bout. Notably, Muna took the fight on a less than 24-hour notice, as Duenas’ original opponent did not make the weight. Although a veteran at the octagon, Muna’s conditioning was in question from the get go.
Muna found himself caught in a headlock for the majority of the fight and was injured at some point during the second round. The fight was called off when Muna could not get up to his feet when the referee opted to stand up the tangled brawlers.
Meanwhile, Trench Tech’s next event will be the Trench Warz 15: Supremacy and is scheduled for December 16.
