High surf to subside today

Share

A high surf advisory is in effect until 6am today, Wednesday.

According to the CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management, light to gentle south winds and combined seas of 6 to 8 feet will gradually diminish to between 2 to 4 feet on Saturday. A nearly stationary front just north of Saipan will generate scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over Saipan and Tinian waters.

Buoy readings from the Marianas and computer model data indicate north-northwest swell from former Typhoon Vongfong continue to impact the Marianas. Hazardous surf of 7 to 9 feet along north facing reefs will fall below hazardous levels today.

The public is advised to avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches, especially those along west and north facing reefs as rip currents will be life threatening. (HSEM)
