A 34-year-old man was arrested for allegedly beating up and trying to stab his wife with a kitchen knife and slapping her minor daughter in Achugao late afternoon Sunday.
Murphy Martin was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, disturbing the peace, and child abuse.
At yesterday’s hearing, Superior Court associate judge Kenneth L. Govendo imposed a $10,000 cash bail for Martin’s temporary release.
The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent the defendant. Preliminary hearing will be on Sept. 22 at 9am.
Detective Peter A. Aldan stated in his report that on Sunday at 7am, Martin’s wife was getting ready for work when she noticed that Martin has not come home since he left on Saturday night.
When she came out from work at 3:30pm, Martin was already waiting for her in the parking lot. On their way home, he stopped by Grand Market and told his wife to buy him beer.
The wife got out of the car and started walking home. As she was walking, a coworker stopped and gave her a ride home.
While the victim was at her neighbor’s home, Martin arrived and called his wife.
Martin confronted the wife, who was in the kitchen, for hiding in a neighbor’s house where he could not beat her up.
When the wife told him, she was not hiding, Martin allegedly slapped her on the face twice. The victim’s minor daughter started crying, but he told her to stop crying and allegedly slapped her face as well.
The neighbor went to the kitchen where she saw Martin punching the victim on the head and face.
The neighbor pulled Martin away. The suspect grabbed two kitchen knives and walked to the wife who was still on the kitchen floor.
Martin was allegedly about to stab the wife when the neighbor struggled with him to take the knives away. The defendant then left the residence.
The neighbor brought the victim to her residence. Martin again allegedly slapped her face twice, and punched her on the head.
Martin walked out of the house as two patrol officers arrived. The officers asked him not to leave, but he managed to run and hide.
Martin was located at 11:22pm that day in Tanapag where he was arrested. Two knives used by Martin were confiscated as evidence.
