‘Host families will be paid for hosting a student’
Host families for a group of 131 students from Hiroshima Johoku Gakuen will be paid for hosting the students during their stay on Saipan, according to Saipan Mayor’s Office executive assistant Yuki Kishimoto.
About 65 to 70 families are still needed. Each host family will be accommodating two students for four nights. Johoku will pay $70 for both students each night during their stay and will receive a total amount of $280.
The students and teachers will be arriving on Nov. 17 at 6pm and will be leaving on Nov. 21 at 7am.
Kishimoto told Saipan Tribune that host families won’t have to pick up the students upon their arrival. Also, there won’t be any welcoming or farewell party.
“There is still discussion on the assembly point as well on where the students will get dropped off,” Kishimoto said.
Johoku is an all-boys school with juniors and seniors in high school and serves over 1,300 students. It also has sister schools in Korea, Australia, and England with whom it has cultural and home exchange programs.
Over the course of their stay they will interact with the host families and learn the culture. There will also be sightseeing trips so the students would learn about the CNMI’s history. They will also have a chance to visit Managaha Island.
