NMISF’s Carol-Lynn Calobong-Pierce said they have several new timers from both Saipan Swim Club and Tsunami Swimming Center Saipan and last weekend’s event served as their first official tournament.
“They are getting the hang of it (timing races). We need to continue training them as there are more meets to come this season,” said Pierce, who helped conduct the competition along with Bobby Winkfield and other volunteers from both clubs and NMISF officials.
Twenty-one events took place in NMISF’s first timed tournament and results are being finalized at press time and will be out once they were made official.
Of the 21 events, the 50m freestyle swim drew the most participants, as 30 joined the race and they were divided into six heats. Heat 1 had Tsunami Saipan’s Aasish Dangol and David Ahn and SSC’s Cory Lee, while Wataru Kadokura, Manuel Babauta, and Jonathan Shu made up Heat 2.
The four other heats featured six swimmers each. Heat 3 had Tsunami’s Rentaro Suzuki, who entered the race with the top PBT (55.54 seconds), and was joined by teammate Gabriel Retardo and Kenta Tomie, and SSC Matthew Zedde, Jefferey Sheu and Dino Sato. In Heat 4, SSC’s Richard Villagomez had the fastest PBT (41.07 seconds) and raced against fellow SSC member Dominic Zedde and Akira Kadokura and Tsunami Saipan’s Hans Zu, Isaiah Aleksenko, and Arman Rechucher.
Another SSC bet, David Boyer, owned the fastest PBT (32.87 seconds) on Heat 5, which also included his teammates Jinnosuke Suzuki, Rintarao Miyawaki, and Leo Takahashi and Tsunami Saioan’s Ja Min Elliot and Anthony Camacho-Deleon Guerrero.
Four SSC swimmers and two Tsunami Saipan members also made up the final heat. SSC was represented in Heat 6 by siblings Ryuto and Kaito Yanai, Christian Villacrusis, and Lennosuke Suzuki, while Tsunami Saipan had Mark Maestro and Takumi Sugi.
The complete events and results of last weekend’s competition will be reported in Saipan Tribune’s Friday edition.
