A 24-year-old man who posed as a woman and beat up a man and a woman for no apparent reason in Koblerville was sentenced yesterday to seven days in prison.

Jason Tira pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and battery as part of a plea deal.

Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman sentenced Tira to six months imprisonment, all suspended except for seven days, with credit for time served. He will be placed on supervised probation for one year.

Tira was also ordered to perform 50 hours of community service and pay a $100 fine, $25 court assessment fee, plus probation fee.

During his probation, Tira is prohibited from possessing or consuming any alcoholic beverages or controlled substances.

Assistant public defender Michael Sato served as counsel for Tira. Assistant attorney general Margo Brown-Badawy appeared for the government.

The case arose from an incident on July 24, 2014, on Saipan, when Tira pushed Ehrick C. Solomon and slapped his face. Tira also slapped Sabrina Satur’s face, pulled her hair, and punched her.

According to a police report, when spotted by police, Tira was dressed in female clothing and was imitating a woman’s voice.

Police detective Therese S. Kintoki stated in her report that a police officer responded to a report of a disturbance at the KB Store parking lot in Koblerville last July 24, at 8:09pm.

Kintoki said the officer came upon a woman who was holding her neck and was complaining of severe neck pain. The woman was shaking and gasping for breath. Medics were summoned to the scene.

The victim told the police she had been sitting on a bench when she saw Tira pushing and slapping a man in the back. Tira then approached her, slapped her on the face, and pulled her hair.

Solomon told police that Tira came out of nowhere and started pushing him.

At 10:31pm that same day, a caller informed the Department of Public Safety that Tira was seen at the former David Market.
