Berdax's Frank Robert in action against Elias in their Chamolinian Softball Association game at the Capitol Hill Ballfield. (Walter Sutherland) Berdax and Saipal notched wins over separate opponents that leveled them up with winning record in the Chamolinian Softball Association standings as the 2nd Budweiser Softball League 2012 season continued last week at the Capitol Hill Ballfield.

Berdax clawed back from an early four-run deficit to overcome Elias, 9-6, on Friday to punch its fourth win in seven tries, while Saipal improved to a 5-4 slate after holding on against Talu Fahn (2-7), 19-14, last Wednesday.

Also on Friday, women’s frontrunner Check It Out (5-1) bounced back from a recent upset with a sound 18-8 win over 670 Babes (3-3), while men’s Manelos (5-3) defeated Familia (4-6), 15-11.
Then this past Wednesday, men’s league co-leader Man Amigos (7-1) downed Six Pack (2-4), 14-4, to rebound from a recent fault, while the Warriors (3-4) stunned X-clusive (3-5), 17-14.

Manelos 15, Familia 11

Manelos assumed control, 6-2, in the first inning off a two-RBI single by Niko Martin, a double by Pat Alepuyo, and a two-run home run by Pete Tomokane.

Familia responded with a seven-run tear in the second inning off eight hits. Lawrence Dikito and Nizer Masayo bagged RBI singles and Pat Guerrero a two-RBI base rip.

Manelos’ Jun Cruz whacked an RBI double and was driven home by Martin to pull within a run in the bottom frame and the crew took the lead, 10-9, in the third off an early error and an RBI single by Shane Mendiola.

Familia left runners on the corners at the start of fourth and left another pair of men on the path in the fifth before Manelos struck again with five runs from a pair of homers by Tomokane and Derick Aughenbaugh and some costly errors late in the inning.

Manelos hung tough out on the field and contained Familia to only one run in the sixth and seventh frames.

Check It Out 18, 670 Babes 8

Check It Out made a statement in the opening frame and put up a baker’s dozen off 10 hits to storm ahead, 13-4.

Jovie Omar, Lani Cruz, and Eula Matsumoto bagged RBI singles, while Sandy Leon Guerrero bashed a two-RBI base hit. Then the second time through the lineup, Minami Tadokoro and Omar each pulled around on a two-RBI base knock and Connie Camacho finished the run with a RBI single.

Later in the third the 670 Babes managed three runs in the top of the third inning, but Check It Out slapped them back down with a trio of runs in the bottom frame that came in off a double by Omar and a base smash by Camacho.

670 Babes were stood up again in the fifth inning as Check It Out countered their effort in the fifth inning to secure the run rule victory.

Check It Out’s Omar batted 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs.

Berdax 9, Elias 6

Elias held a brief 6-2 lead after bringing around five runs in the top of the second off four hits and a pair of sacrifice flies by Mike Cruz and Mel Manahane. Rod Camacho started the burst with a lead-off solo blast and his teammate Jay Tilipao cracked an RBI double in the inning.

Berdax got two runs back in the bottom side with a handful of drives and pulled ahead, 7-6, in the third inning thanks to a pair of long balls by Ben Taisacan and Frank Robert. Dave Camacho Jr. came around with the former.

Elias’ offense faded from the midpoint after leaving runners on the corners to start the third and managed only one other runner in scoring position for the rest of the game.

Their defense kept them in the game for the next two innings, but Berdax eventually grinded out two insurance runs in the sixth off an error and a sac fly by John Taitano.

Saipal 19, Talu Fahn 4

Saipal amassed a daunting 12-2 lead after the first inning. A leadoff walk and a couple of base hits set the table for a three-RBI double by Gloyd Martin.

The group peppered six other hits including pair of RBI singles by Leo Bobai and Luis Ngiraikelau and a two-RBI smash by Clifton Silil.

Both teams came up dry in the second inning and then they each traded two runs in the third that bumped the count up to 14-4. Talu Fahn took advantage from some errors in the top portion, while Saipal snuck its runs home off an error and an RBI base knock by Silil.

Talu Fahn could not get things going in the fourth inning and Saipal manufactured the four runs needed for the early decision in the bottom frame.

A three-run bomb by Ngiraikelau highlighted the deciding heave.

Warriors 17, X-clusive 14

The Warriors built a 5-2 edge in the first frame off some early blunders and a three-run blast by Sydney Kani and quickly loading the bases in the second inning as they accrued four more runs off a sacrifice fly by Melvin Keller and a three-run shot by leadoff man MacGarry Scaliem Jr.

X-clusive countered with seven runs in the top of the third to knot up the match at 9-all off eight hits. Mike Manas belted an RBI double, J.J. Cabrera an RBI single, Vince Cepeda left the yard for three runs and two other runs came in off a double by George David and an RBI single from Ben Sablan.

X-clusive’s Cabrera and Fred Sato powered a couple of homers to lead a four-run surge in the fourth inning and the count then shifted to 14-10 as both teams sifted out a run in the fifth frame.

After both teams made a pitching change in the sixth, the Warriors lucked out with seven runs off just two hits. Five walks and two errors allowed most of the run to the plate, though Kani managed an RBI single in the mess.

The Warriors finished strong as well and ended the game with a double play up the middle.

Man Amigos 14, Six Pack 4

Six Pack held a 4-2 lead after two innings until Man Amigos’ John Terlaje belted a two-RBI single to lock it at 4-all in the third inning.

Six Pack must have split a couple of cans as its offense ran dry for the remainder of the contest, while Man Amigos pressed on to an 8-4 lead in the fourth inning off four hits. Roy Celis and Manny Sablan hammered a pair of two-run homers.

They added three more in the fifth off an error and two RBI base rips by James Fleming and Ben Jones and added another three in the sixth before closing up a frame early.

Man Amigos’ Celis batted 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run.
