Tropical Storm 19W

Tropical depression 19W has been upgraded to a tropical storm as of 1pm this afternoon, Friday, according to the CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

The center of Tropical Storm 19W was located by satellite at about 1,115 miles southeast of Pagan, 1,010 miles east-southeast of Saipan, and 1,015 miles east-southeast of Tinian and Rota.

Tropical Storm 19W is moving west at 12 mph. It is expected to turn to the west-northwest this evening and continue west-northwestward over the next few days. This forecast track will bring Tropical Storm 19W within the vicinity of the Mariana Islands by early Monday morning.

Maximum sustained winds are 40 mph. Tropical Storm 19W is expected to intensify over the next few days and may be a typhoon by Monday.

The CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management will be monitoring the movement of Tropical Storm 19W and will be issuing bulletins as they become available. Please continue to monitor the official bulletins that will be available through local media sources and NOAA weather radio broadcast on 162.5 megahertz, or call the CNMI EOC Dispatch Center at 237-8000 or 211, and for the Northern Islands to contact the CNMI EOC Dispatch Center at high frequency single side band radio on frequency 5.205.0.
