Ex-MMA fighter allegedly extorts cash from man he suspects of theft
Former mixed martial arts fighter Peter Manglona Deleon Guerrero allegedly extorted $20 from a man he had accused of stealing a bicycle by threatening to break his face and slam his head on a wall in Garapan on Friday.
Deleon Guerrero, 46, also known by his fight name “Dragon,” was served with an arrest warrant in China Town on Tuesday afternoon on charges of robbery, assault, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace. His bail was set at $10,000 cash. Preliminary hearing will be on Oct. 7 at 1:30pm.
Deleon Guerrero is the son of former House speaker Pedro Deleon Guerrero, Saipan Tribune learned.
Police detective Olympio S. Muna stated in his report that he was at the Department of Public Safety’s Tourism Oriented Policing Section in Lower Miha Housing on Friday at 11:28am when Lawrence A. San Antonio came to report that Deleon Guerrero robbed and assaulted him at Best Poker in western Garapan.
According to San Antonio, he was playing poker at Winners Poker in central Garapan when Deleon Guerrero approached and accused him of stealing a bicycle at Best Poker. Deleon Guerrero allegedly told San Antonio that a closed circuit TV camera at Best Poker showed that he stole the bicycle.
San Antonio challenged Deleon Guerrero to show him the footage. The two then went to Best Poker, where Deleon Guerrero told a woman there that Deleon Guerrero was the one who stole her bicycle. San Antonio asked the woman if he could see the footage. The woman replied, “Never mind.”
Deleon Guerrero held on to San Antonio’s back, escorted him out, and brought him to the southern portion of the establishment where they were not visible to the surveillance camera. Deleon Guerrero then allegedly asked San Antonio for $20 for wasting his time. When San Antonio told him that he was hustling him, Deleon Guerrero replied, “Do you know who I am? I’m Dragon. Give me the $20 before I break your face, and then slam your head to the concrete!”
Deleon Guerrero allegedly attempted to punch San Antonio, prompting the latter to hand him $20. San Antonio then headed to TOPS for police assistance.
Later that same day, Muña and police officer Jason Tarkong left TOPS and headed to Best Poker, where they asked a cashier to review the surveillance camera footage earlier that day.
Tarkong immediately identified Deleon Guerrero in the footage. The footage corroborated San Antonio’s statements that the suspect pulled him and pushed him against the wall by the main entrance.
The police also spoke with the bicycle owner, who stated that someone stole her bicycle last Sept. 22, while it was parked outside Best Poker. The next day, she and a co-worker reviewed the video footage and saw a man taking her bicycle. As there were customers playing poker at the time, she asked them if they could look at the footage and see if they would recognize the person who took her bicycle. The woman said a male customer, later identified as Deleon Guerrero, stated he would help her find the suspect.
The woman said that on Friday, Sept. 26, three men came and one of them, Deleon Guerrero, asked her if they could see the footage on the day when her bicycle was stolen. The woman said she was scared because she was alone at that time so she just told Deleon Guerrero “never mind” and thanked him for his help. The two left.
In May 2008, Deleon Guerrero pleaded guilty to two counts of issuance of bad checks. He was sentenced to six months in prison, all suspended, and was placed on six months probation.
On Feb. 26, 2013, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Judge N. Camacho issued a bench warrant for Deleon Guerrero for not appearing in court in connection with a civil lawsuit filed against him by a store. Camacho quashed the warrant yesterday during Deleon Guerrero’s bail hearing.
The defendant’s revocation hearing arraignment will be on Oct. 20 at 9am. He was ordered to appear on Oct. 6 for the civil matter.
