NMC population number ‘historic’
According to the Northern Marianas College, its enrollment number of 1,260 full-time students this semester is one of its highest enrollment numbers in its history.
“There is no mistaking that the college continues to play a central role in educating and training thousands of individuals each year, and this has been accomplished through our academic programs and other community programs that focus on training and development,” NMC president Dr. Sharon Hart said in a statement.
Most of this semester’s students are pursuing associate degree in liberal arts, with 408 enrolled.
A total of 270 are enrolled in NMC’s bachelor’s of science program in education with emphasis on early childhood, elementary education, special education, and rehabilitation and human services.
Some 120 students are enrolled in the associate degree in applied science in nursing/ pre-nursing program, while 101 are pursuing associate degree in criminal justice.
For its new bachelor’s program in business management, NMC has 41, with 36 enrolled in it related associate program.
A total of 81 students are enrolled in the associate degree business program, 30 students are in accounting, and 41 are in hospitality management.
NMC’s natural resource management program has 35 enrolled, while 31 are enrolled for computer applications and 21 in its English Language Institute.
Some 40 students remain undeclared.
Hart said that while it is important to look at the number of students served under NMC’s credit programs, it is equally important to look at the numbers served in the college’s non-credit programs like the Community Development Institute and the Adult Basic Education Program.
The college has served thousands of individuals in these programs, according to her.
Full time equivalency is calculated by taking the total number credits a student has registered for and dividing that figure by 12 (minimum number needed to be a full-time student).
