Last year’s finalist Saipan International School White is still undefeated in the middle school division of the 2014-2015 Coalition of Private School Sports Association Volleyball League after last Wednesday’s games.

The Geckos improved to a 2-0 record after sweeping sister team SIS Blue last Wednesday at the SIS court in As Lito. SIS White secured the early victory after cruising past SIS Blue in the first two sets, 25-10, 25-5. In the third set, last year’s finalist completed a perfect run after a 15-8 victory. Teams are still allowed to play the third set even if one team had already won the match after two sets to give players more time to play.

Before meeting its sister squad, SIS White first dueled Seventh Day Adventist last week and also swept SDA in three sets. The Geckos, who lost to Whispering Palms in last year’s finale, dominated SDA in the opening set, 25-14 before the latter gave SIS a good fight in the second, 25-21. The third set was another tough battle with SIS White still prevailing, 15-11.

Meanwhile, Whispering Palms started its title defense with a convincing win over SIS Blue last week. The defending champion coasted to a 25-6 victory in the first set and notched the early win after a 25-4 triumph in the second set. In the third set, SIS Blue played their best game, but Whispering Palms still took the win, 15-9.

In other results last week, Grace Christian Academy also defeated SIS Blue, 25-13, 25-4, 15-8. GCA was scheduled to duel Mount Carmel School in the opening week of the eight-team league, but results of that match at the Knights court in Chalan Kanoa were unavailable at press time, while the SDA versus Saipan Community School match was rescheduled due to rain.

Majority of the matches in the opening week of the middle school competition were reset due to unplayable weather. In yesterday’s matches, SIS White was hoping to extend its winning run to three against Mt. Carmel, while SIS Blue was aiming to barge into the win column in is game against MBA. Two more matches were scheduled yesterday with Saipan Community slated to challenge Whispering Palms and GCA paired against SDA.

The eight participating teams will play in a double-round robin regular season, while playoff format will be announced after the elimination.
