Effective Sept. 12, 2014, Cadet Lt. Col. Jennifer Uy assumed command of the 8th Brigade, University of Guam’s Triton Warrior Battalion.

Uy, the youngest daughter of Jose and Ellen Uy from the island of Tinian, took over from Cadet Command Sgt. Maj. Suanne Camacho, who is also a CNMI (Saipan) resident and the oldest daughter of Ignacio and Cynthia Camacho of Kagman, Saipan.

Both Uy and Camacho are both CNMI scholars and are currently seniors at the University of Guam. They are expected to graduate and be commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army in May 2015.

In her speech during the change of command ceremony, Uy said: “I would like to share some insight with you what always motivated me to strive for excellence: Always remember what you represent. The patches we wear on this uniform are indicative of just that. Over your heart is the U.S. Army tape, which represents who you’re fighting for. To your right represents each of us individually, your family name. Remember that no one can take anything away from you, only you can create the future you desire. It may be a long journey, but with your hard work and dedication, success will always meet you at your destination.”

“Triton Warrior Battalion, I offer you my full, undivided commitment. I am privileged to serve as your new cadet battalion commander. I will work with you, struggle with you and strive for success with you. Let us continue to display evidence of the quality of leaders that our islands have to offer,” added Uy. (PR)
