Man’amko news

I offer my congratulations to all new members of the Man’amko Council who won their seats recently in a competitive election. They gave us new hopes. The election has shown that the voters are getting smarter in their choices and want changes to take place. They do not vote just for a friend or to give a favor because of relationships. They vote for smart and good candidates with good background in expectation of wise decisions.

Most of all the new members hold college degrees and good background.  Sorry for those who sat in their offices for a very long time and did so few and are now gone! They were old-fashioned, doing things the same way with no innovation. I believe the new council officers will improve on the man’amko’s works.

Another good news: Last month, the man’amko had two days at the Lao Lao Bay Golf & Resort. It was wisely combined with touring all significant tourist spots of Saipan. The man’amko made the tour while sitting in nice QQ Rental cars that were generously donated. People returned home full of fresh impressions and willing to visit that resort soon.

About our daily life, everything at the Aging Center seems organized thoughtfully. There is an effectively functioning computer room equipped with computers, scanners, music devices, printers etc. The two pool tables, fitness equipment, TVs and others are serving the people well. The center also has a basketball ground and golfing field. A movie room comes with technology that lets viewers be part of what is being displayed. The relaxing massage chair relaxes.

We relax reading in our library or reading fresh newspapers. Playing football. They have all kinds of books.  Most of all, we never miss reading the newspapers and the man’amko are always up to date on what is going on in our islands everyday. I encourage senior citizens out in the community who are not yet man’amko members to give it a try: come and see and feel their center.  Meet the members, chat with them, listen to our band’s performance led by nice singers Eden and Jess.

About our tradition. On the last visit day of each month, we celebrate the within-the-month birthdays of our members. We offer them our congratulations, treat us with cake and ice cream and coffee, sing and dance. Also, a special Mass is held each month for the celebrants. Our local newspapers, Saipan Tribune and Marianas Variety, pay enough attention to the man’amko’s life and we appreciate them a lot for their services.

Life goes on. The man’amko are also moving on, not lagging behind.
