Training academy graduates put certification to good use

Recent graduates of the newly launched American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute certification program have found their industry training a great investment.

Two of the inaugural graduates who relocated to Guam to attend college have secured employment at the Outrigger and Palmridge Hotels. Other graduates who have remained in the CNMI have been able to secure jobs in hotels throughout the island.

The certification courses, offered by the Latte Training Academy, began the trainings in May of this year in partnership with the CNMI Public School System.

The non-profit training organization has partnered with PSS to offer the Hotel and Hospitality Certification program at Kagman High School, Marianas High School, and Saipan Southern High School for the fall and spring semesters. The certification program, which is in high demand by hotels and resorts, will soon be offered to the general public.

“We are excited about the success that our inaugural graduates have realized as a result of their hard work and we look forward to offering the certification courses to a wider segment of our workforce population. The Latte Training Academy was recently approved as a training provider with the CNMI Department of Labor and is planning to launch a training course in early October 2014. We will be able to offer the AHLEI Certification courses to those in our community who are eligible through the various CNMI Department of Labor programs,” said Latte Training Academy president Arielle Buyum.

The Latte Training Academy, which has a goal of developing the CNMI’s workforce, has seen a steady demand for the certification courses by hotels and resorts throughout the island. The organization has established relationships with the Hotel Association of the Northern Marianas Islands and the Saipan Chamber of Commerce to help streamline the pool of qualified, skilled, and competent employees in the hotel and hospitality industry.

“Many of our partners recognize the quality of the AHLEI Programs as the trainings and certification courses are considered the gold standard of the industry. We have partnered with many on-island establishments to allow our students to engage in a hands-on experience during the courses. This helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application and also gives employers the opportunity to evaluate our student’s fit into their organizational demands,” said Jim Arenovski, the academy’s exclusive training partner.
