Federal and local law enforcers filled the San Jose Church yesterday morning to attend the Police Blue Mass, which is intended to recognize all law enforcers and to remember those who have fallen in the line of duty.
Lt. Gov. Eloy Inos joined the law enforcers at the Mass that started at 9am. Many family members of law enforcers also attended the Mass.
Acting Department of Public Safety commissioner Ambrosio Ogumoro said that having 80 to 90 percent of the DPS force at the Mass “means a lot.”
“It’s a good sign that we’re working together,” said Ombrosio, adding that only those on patrol duty were absent.
Police officer Jason Tarkong said the Police Blue Mass is the kickoff of the Police Week celebration.
Tarkong said that Police Week is recognized by the federal and local governments.
“During Police Blue Mass we recognize all the officers on duty and those who have fallen in the line of duty,” he said.
It is not just the local law enforcers that are recognized but also federal law enforcers and some military who died in the line of duty, Tarkong said.
