The CNMI Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Services state plan can now be viewed by the public through the website of its federal grantor, the Rehabilitation Services Administration.

In a letter to CNMI OVR director Arlene Yamagata, U.S. Department of Education Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services-RSA Commissioner Janet LaBreck said that OVR’s state plan will be reviewed until it is ready to be published by RSA.

“RSA acknowledges your electronic submission of the state plan, in the form of a preprint of affirmative assurances and required attachments, was reviewed to ensure conformity with statutory provisions of the Act,” LaBreck stated.

Labreck also stated RSA will make CNMI grant awards available soon.

“The approved OVR state plan will be published by RSA and available to the general public on RSA’s website. Those who are interested can visit the website,” she stated.

OVR’s state plan was approved after numerous public consultations. Forums were held June 11, 2014, for Saipan, June 9, 2014, for Tinian, and June 14, 2014, for Rota.

The plan was approved earlier in July by the State Rehabilitation Council of the CNMI.

In related news, Yamagata said as one of their state plan goals, OVR is looking to close 37 cases for continued employment of clients this new fiscal year.

Yamagata said that OVR last fiscal year closed 36 cases.

“The only time we can close a case with a client is if the help is provided and that we have provided rehabilitation services and if they have continued employment after 90 days,” she said.
