Longtime govt counsel Jim Stump moves to Triple J
Longtime CNMI government counsel James “Jim” Stump, who was instrumental in the application and review process for Saipan’s first casino license, has moved to the private sector.
Stump started his new job as legal counsel for Triple J Enterprises last week. As government counsel, Stump served as the governor’s special counsel and the Commonwealth Lottery Commission’s counsel, among other things.
Jay Santos, general manager for Triple J Five Star Wholesale Foods and Triple J Truckload Store, confirmed yesterday that Stump began working as legal counsel for Triple J on Sept. 2.
Gov. Eloy S. Inos’ acting press secretary Ivan Blanco separately confirmed Stump’s resignation from government.
“The government appreciates Mr. Stump’s long service and we wish him well in his new post in the private sector,” Blanco said.
Commerce Secretary Sixto Igisomar separately said yesterday that Stump is “calm and collected even though he’s in the middle of a storm.”
Igisomar, as chairman of the Lottery Commission that reviewed and granted an exclusive Saipan casino license, worked closely with Stump for months. Igisomar spoke of Stump’s professionalism, determination, and knowledge.
Igisomar added that Stump was instrumental in helping the Lottery Commission weather storms as they reviewed the applications for the casino license and related matters.
“He’s very strong and determined. I also wish him well in his new job,” Igisomar said.
