NMI gets warm welcome at Nippon Domannaka Festival
The Northern Mariana Islands delegation received a warm welcome at the 16th Annual Nippon Domannaka Festival in Nagoya, Japan last weekend, Aug. 29-31, taking advantage of the opportunity to promote the islands to potential visitors.
Approximately 40,000 dancers representing 209 teams performed for an estimated 2.2 million visitors during the festival, which was spread across 20 stages throughout the city. The event captured a nationwide audience through media coverage, and nearly 50,000 brochures from the CNMI, including information about Saipan, Tinian, and Rota were issued during the three-day period.

The NMI delegation of indigenous Carolinian dancers joined dance troupes from Hokkaido in the north to Fukuoka in the south, as well as several overseas groups.
Saipan Mayor Marian Tudela and 2014 Miss Liberation Queen Pressel Camacho also attended and received media coverage of their meeting with the Nagoya Mayor Takashi Kawamura.
“Mayor Kawamura extended his appreciation to Mayor Tudela for joining this year’s event,” said Marianas Visitors Authority marketing manager Bruce Bateman. “Nagoya appreciates the CNMI’s presence in the dance festival, a program undertaken 13 years ago to foster goodwill with the city through cultural exchange. Once again, we have been successful in receiving free media exposure for the NMI through our participation in this event. We commend Team PDI director Gordon Marciano and the CNMI Domatsuri team for continuing to make this event a success.”
IT&E, Pacific Trading Co., Chamolinian Cultural Village Inc., KKMP, and the Saipan Mayor’s Office also supported the CNMI’s participation in the event. (MVA)
