Carol Lee’s dominating performance last month’s 2014 Pacific Oceania Junior Championship in Fiji was enough reason for her to take the TSL Foundation-Northern Marianas Sports Association August Female Student Athlete of the Month.

Lee demolished her opponents at the Pacific Oceania Regional Training Centre in Lautoka where she claimed two titles to become the undisputed under-14 champion.

The 12-year-old only dropped one set the entire tournament. She defeated New Caledonia’s Lea Bolo in the two times they met in the finals, 6-0, 6-2 and 7-6 (2), 6-1.

Fellow junior netter Robie Schorr joined Lee for the top honor after being named the male student awardee while Pauline Kapileo bagged the Female Athlete of the Month.

Schorr became the CNMI’s highest male finisher in the POJC, ending up fourth in both legs. He won the boys’ U14 doubles crown after teaming up with Guam’s Camden Camacho.

Kapileo, meanwhile, decided to conquer her fear of the water after signing up for Saipan Swim Club’s adult learn to swim free program last July. She then joined seven other adult swimmers in completing their first open water swim last month. (Jon Perez)
