HONOLULU-Coast Guard rescue crews are searching for two fishermen aboard an outrigger canoe near Fanning Island Sunday.

Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu watchstanders received a call from a search and rescue coordinator in Kiribati requesting assistance in the search for a 12-foot outrigger canoe with two people aboard. The fishermen departed from Fanning Island Saturday. The boat was last seen by another fishing boat Saturday at approximately 3pm trying to haul in fish.

A Coast Guard C-130 Hercules airplane from Air Station Barbers Point is helping search for the two people aboard the outrigger canoe. (USCG)
