A tight race is expected to heat up for the 2014 Budweiser Open 8-Ball Thursday League with the Poseidon Titans and the Jokers Homeboyz kicking off their respective title bids with victories over their separate opponents in Thursday last week.

The Titans and Homeboyz are currently tied on top of the Thursday league standings with equal 10-5 won-loss slates.

The Titans will host the Homeboyz today with both teams aiming to break the tie.

Wild Bill’s Wild Wild West is one game behind (9-6) and followed closely by Smoke Pub Magic 8-Ball’s 8-7 mark and the 7-8 card of National Alamo Car Rental.

Barcode Breakers (6-9) and Route33 Armatech Masters and Jonny’s Team SCS (5-10 each), despite at the lower half of the standings, are still in title contention in the 14-week league that ends on Nov. 20.

The Tuesday league, meanwhile, has a three-way tie with Jokers Str8 Shooters and sister team IT&E Voyagers, and Jonnys Crazy 8 all holding 19-11 marks.

Smoke Pub Sang&D’Gang and Saipan TV Hustler are tied from second to third spots with 13-17 cards, while Smoke Pub Lanchun Girls is at the bottom of the standings at 7-23.

Tuesday League games on Sept. 2 will have the Voyagers, Lanchun Girls, and Hustlers hosting the Crazy 8, Shooters and Sang&D’Gang, respectively, in the home-and-away format. (Jon Perez)
