Percy, Yho top August roll-off

Percy Omechelang continues to burn the lanes of the Saipan Bowling Center after conquering anew the August Budweiser Monthly King of the Lanes held over the weekend.

The IT&E employee, who pocketed $90 for winning, compiled a four-game total of 850 pinfalls to take his third monthly plum. He previously won the June and July monthly roll-offs of the Saipan Bowling Association-organized tournament.

Omechelang opened up tied with Raul Dumapit with 216 but dropped from the top ranking after a 176. He went back into title contention with a 246 in the third game before closing out with a 212 for a 212.5 average.

Former Saipan youth bowler Raymond Angeles finished second with an 816—214, 169, 212, 221—for a 204 average and won $40, while Dumapit placed third with a 216, 203, 224, and 162 for a 805 total and 201.25 average. He settled for the $30 third place purse.

Rusty Musca (781), Ronald Batac (766), Jae Yong Kim (745), Raphael Zapanta (740), Tony Verdaguer (723), Tito Corpuz (709), and many-time perfect gamer Robert Talavera (706) were the other bowlers who finished in the Top 10.

Ador Dimaano (705), M.J. Aldan (701), Simon Manacop (684), Paul Pangelinan (657), Lee Yong Won (632), Lito Teodoro (622), Ben Aizon (616), Roger De Guzman (607), Benjie Cruz (592), Raymond Zapanta (570), and Tony Yarobwemal (568) also competed.

In the women’s side, reigning Queen of the Lanes Yho Villavicencio won her first monthly crown after besting eight other challengers.

Villavicencio went home $80 richer after ruling the the August tilt. She tallied 693 pinfalls behind a four-game series of 182, 179, 175, and 157 for a 10-pin victory over closest pursuer Lala Taitano (683—178, 137, 177, 191), who bagged the $30 second prize.

Former Queen of the Lanes title-holder Diana Camacho ended up third with 674 (162, 135, 189, 188) to settle for the $20 cash prize.

Janice Camacho (667), Elena Soll (645), Gloria Omechelang (637), Esther Choi (632), Cora Muna (604), and Carrie Camacho (599) also competed in the monthly roll-off. (Jon Perez)
