Tinian cattlemen warned of Marines’ activity
The Tinian Mayor’s Office issued a notice yesterday to cattlemen on the island about the upcoming exercise by U.S. Marine forces and adjustments that need to be made on how cattle will be brought to watering stations during the duration of the exercise.
“The U.S. Marines have landed on Tinian and their equipment were being off-loaded at the dock yesterday. Clearing at what is now called Echo Runway at West Field will probably begin today by elements of Marine Air Group 12,” said Don Farrell, chief of staff of Tinian Mayor Ramon Dela Cruz.
“The Marines are making sure that our cattlemen will be able to continue using the both the Broadway and 8th Avenue watering stations throughout the exercise. They will do this by focusing on clearing the northern taxiway first, leaving the existing ‘road’ through Runway Echo for cattlemen to carry water. Once the taxiway is cleared, they will shift work to Runway Echo. At that time, the cattlemen will be asked to use the taxiway for the duration of the exercise.
“The Marines are making access available for the cattlemen. Please respect the Marines at work and follow their directions during the exercise,” Farrell added.
