Parents, family members, and friends gathered at the Saipan Community School chapel to meet and greet their new teachers. After opening with prayer, school principal Bobby Winkfield introduced his staff to the audience and gave general information for the opening of the school year.

“We are very excited to start the school year. We have many returning teachers, and everyone is looking forward to building on last year’s successes,” Winkfield said.

Teachers then proceeded to the classrooms ahead of the crowd that would tour the campus. Also touring the campus were Saipan Community Church board members and pastors.

Parents were greeted in the classrooms with opportunities to encourage their children to learn well this year. Many wrote notes to their children while sitting in their seats, and some even left a handprint as a symbol their encouragement. Smiling faces were everywhere and the energy and excitement was a testament to the joy of learning.

Saipan Community School, with its 40-year history, is the longest standing Protestant school on the island. Enrollment is still open for Kindergarten to eighth grade. (SCS)
